My sewing books

These are my sewing book collections. Ok, I have like a dozen or so more which are pattern related. 3 of these are vintage books which are totally amazing!

(Left to Right: Couture Sewing, Pattern Drafting (which is from the 1960ies), Twinkle Sews)

True blue 1960ies sewing books. They even smell old!

Me Made March - Last Week

These are the last 4 outfits of Me Made March 2011.

This is DVF wrap dress inspired. Mabel actually thought this was a Missoni dress and I'm very flattered.

This is a Roland Mouret's Galaxy dress knock off using Vogue Patterns. My 2nd attempt at this pattern actually. :) Love it!

This is another Vogue pattern dress, using jacquard from Gorgerous Fabric. The fabric is amazing with purple motifs embroderied onto navy blue .

Lastly, Burdastyle short skirt with hound tooth jacquard from Gorgeous Fabric as well.

There, the end of Me Made March posts. :)

Me Made March - Week 3

Bonjour everyone!

Progress of week 3- 3 outfits which I wore to work.

14th March 2011
This is a dress from Michiko Kayaki's "Simple Chic" sewing book. Pardon the creases haha.

15th March 2011
This is another "Chanel" jacket I made. I used the pattern "Origa" from Tamanegikobo. Fabric is from Gorgeous Fabrics. Skirt is made-me as well. This is a "Jenny" skirt from Burdastyle. I made like 6 versions of Jennys in various shades of grey, black, yellow and in tweed as well.

18th March 2011
This is a Butterick 5211, made with silk twill. This is a really fast and easy dress to sew! I was at the Marina Barrage. Beautiful place!

Trench Coat - Progress Report

Trench coat is making progress! Fabric has been cut and I have chosen the lining of my trench!

Work in Progress

Lining + Trench Fabric
The most challenging part of sewing a trench is adding all the tiny details - epulets, tabs etc.. those tiny things take a considerable amount of time to sew but add lots of character. haha and of course, makes the trench look more store bought than home made. :P

Me Made March - Week 2

Hi Folks!

Week 2! Not extremely good progress on wearing every item "made-me". Only managed 3 days out of 5 working days. Forgive the pics as they were taken in a hurry in the morning before I rush off to work!

8th March 2011
This is a Butterick 5455 and I used ikat print silk twill from EmmaOneSock. It was tough matching the prints! This is my 2nd B5455, I made lilac version in Thai silk.

9th March 2011
Both the jacket and skirt are "Made-Me"! Jacket is a simple cotton tweed material I bought from Nippori Fabric town in Tokyo. It was really cheap! 1000Yen for the piece of cloth for this jacket! Was "Coco Chanel" inspired hence the black trimmings. Skirt is a "mermaid" skirt, something similar to what Yoshimi had posted.
10th March 2011
DVF inspired wrapped dress. I used Butterick's 5546. More versions of this dress to come as I have a stash of jersey fabric from Gorgeous Fabrics just waiting to be sewn! :) Fabric for this dress is Gorgeous Fabric's rayon challis.

Me Made March - Week 1

Pics from Me Made March week1.

1st March 2011
I made this dress from a vintage 1960's Simplicity pattern with bateau neckline. Skirt has soft pleats in front instead of the usual darts.

2nd March 2011
Me-Made-Skirt. Cotton twill from Gorgeous Fabrics, with front pockets. I copied this A line skirt from December 2010 edition of Classy (Japanese magazine) This is the snapshot of the skirt featured in the magazine

I was not wearing any Made-Me items over the weekend as I was here!
Marina Bay Golf Course! Beautiful isnt it?

3 Tuck Pants

I've seen so many pants with tucks or pleats for ladies for the past few seasons that I had to have one. Unfortunately, I am one the few girls who look really "weird" in pants ( I highly suspect that my legs are not in proportion to the length of my upper body), hence I could not find any available off-the-racks.

Hence my first attempt at sewing pants. This project gave me a few "first"s. First attempt at sewing a pant style zipper. I have no problems with invisible zippers but lapped zippers and pant style zippers scares me. First attempt at sewing a waist band. First attempt at sewing pants(I did not make a muslin, which could turn out disasterious).

Anyways, decided to make a pair of camel coloured pants using Evans pattern from Miho of Tamanegi-Kobo. I have seen a few really beautiful creations from this pattern by Yoshimi and Satomi. Miho's patterns are easy to follow and the finished projects are really beautiful.

I wore this to the office today. To all the Chinese readers out there, Happy Lunar New Year!

My new up-coming projects....

Project A
Trench Coat ala "Burberry"

Ever since I saw the original Burberry's trenchcoat at Galleries Lafayette in Paris (retailing at EUR 950), I have been wanting to own a proper trench coat which would take me to countries in Spring and Autumn. Navy blue being my favourite colour, my trench coat shall be navy blue!

I'll be using McCall's M5525 view D but with sleeves from view E to achieve the Burberry's look.

My fabric choice is from my regular online fabric website - Gorgeous Fabrics and this is the fabric I chose!

Project B
True blood's Queen of Louisiana dress

This is a screenshot of the Vampire Queen of Louisiana in True Blood. I just love this 1950's wrap dress. The underside is actually lined red! The three quarter sleeves and the gloves are just amazing!

In order to have an accurate replica of the above 1950's wrap dress, below is my latest Etsy purchase.

I might have to do some minor adjustments as this is definitely not in my size. Hopefully the project will be successful. Now I have to think of where to wear my Queen dress to.... lol...

Project C
Swing Dress Sewalong

Casey from Casey's Elegant Musing has launched her swing dress sew along. I love dresses from the 1940's hence I'll be embarking on this sew along as well. I'll be behind time but pics will be up once it is done.

Cheers!

My Lady Grey Coat - October 2010

Hi all,

Gertie had a Lady Grey Coat sewalong in October 2010. I had a business trip to Paris and quickly whipped up the Lady Grey coat. Fit was not 100% to my satisfaction but it looks great (to me) none the less.

First Post

Hi fellow sewers,

I have been a home sewer since 2008. Been sewing regularly for the past 3 years. Pretty proud to say that bulk of my wardrobe is made up of "home couture" (if I may use this phrase). I love dresses from the 1950's and I collect vintage sewing patterns as well. More to come of my mini collection and more posts of my creations.

Cheers!
